Folks,

We have a bit more information about this upcoming release than we did a few weeks ago. Karla Bonoff will be releasing her first live album in late summer/early fall. I believe the mixing and editing has all been done and it awaits getting mastered soon. I've seen early artwork and it's a great looking CD.

The album is a double CD release and will have 21 songs - there are two new KB songs on it - three if you include "Compass" which has only been released on a Bryndle album. The band includes Karla, Kenny Edwards, Nina Gerber and Scott Babcock. Karla and Kenny co-produced the album.

Although not everything has been confirmed yet, we expect that the CD will be available autographed here on this website and will also be available from various online digital retailers as well as major retailers.

We'll update this as more information is available.

- Paul

In addition to Compass and "Baja Oklahoma", what is the third new song from Karla on her upcoming live album?

The third new song is called "What About Joanne" - other than Compass, I haven't heard any of the new songs yet.

Thank you for the great news. I just can't wait to hear the live album! By the way, do you know what's happened to the plan that a Japanese record company releases her live album on the CD/DVD package format? I've not found any details about it for a long time... Thank you.

My understanding is that Karla was not happy with some of the aspects of the project and after some attempt to work out those differences, she decided not to go forward with it. She's wanted to do a live album for some time - I remember her mentioning it at least 5 years ago after a show in the Bay Area where I had just seen her play. In a casual moment, she said she'd like to record and release her own live album and sell it on the web. It took a while but that's exactly what she's doing. She took an active hand in co-producing the album with Kenny and she will probably be more involved in the details of this album than any she's ever been associated with. That's the music business in the 21st century.

Dear Paul,

Belatedly, thank you very much for your detailed explanation. I fully understand the situation. As a big fan of her music, I'm glad to hear that Karla has decided not to go forward with the project. Because I'd like to listen to what she'd like us to listen to, of course. I'm looking forward to buying a copy of her new live album. Please keep us posted! Thank you.

I've seen a preliminary listing of songs - but I think I'll hold off a bit until we know there's not going to be any changes. There wasn't anything that wasn't included that I would want to have on there.

I was very happy to see "Rose in the Garden" which I don't think I've ever seen Karla play. I know she does play it from time to time but I haven't heard it. I'm also interested in the two new songs which I haven't heard at all.

The very good news is that it looks like the CD will be out as early as sometime in August - and I don't think it'll be any later than the first half of September. That's a bit more specific.

- Paul

I talked with Karla today and it looks like the new live album will be coming out late August - we're slowly honing in on a specific release date. Karla also confirmed that we will have autographed copies available throught the website. More details to come.

By the way, here's a recent photo of Karla's cat Arnie. Arnie was rescued from a shelter in Hawaii where there's a large over-population of cats. What a beautiful animal!

Hello Paul,

Nice project to build a live album, but we are all waiting for a more visual result; with other words: nowadays we living with computers, internet and of course Video. In the almost 35 years, since "Woke Up This Morning" when can we expect our Karla on DVD-Video ???
but we are all waiting for..."
Famous last words on the net. I always wonder when someone says "we" who exactly "they" are speaking for.

Actually Alvali, I'm with you on this and I hope Karla will eventually release a DVD, but this an audio release. A lot of people see her play live and know how good this band is playing her songs. A lot of people haven't seen her live and this will give them a good idea of how she's interpreting her very best.

I'm not sure that I follow the connection that computers and Internet mean that "we" have to be looking at video to enjoy music. Anyone have any ideas about this 21st century theory? I'm not saying it isn't true, I'm just not sure. I listen to a lot of 5.1 audio on my DVD player with no video. High Tech and music don't always equal video.

I also know that if the first time I heard a song was while watching a video, every time I heard that song again, that video played in my head, even if I was only listening to the radio. Maybe it's a good thing MTV and VH1 don't play videos anymore.

That cat is so beautiful. An abby? They are wonderful pets. Very affectionate breed and funny as they leap around like crazy. My friend has one who was a rescue -- an alley cat, who eats all her food and loves wine and most liquor and gets drunk now and then when she sneaks into someone's glass. Very funny.

I have been lucky enough to see Karla perform at The Coach House in San Juan Capistrano California TWICE. I have been a fan for many years and have seen many concerts. Many artists don't quite live up to the records or tapes or CD's (all apply to me by the way) that we listen to. Both shows that I saw were some of the best I have ever seen by anyone. There is a feeling that she brings on stage with her. I am a big fan of Nanci Griffith and recognized Nina Gerber on stage at the second show a few years back. The highlight of the night was that I was so excited to see the show I arrived at 5:30 pm so I could make sure I didn't get caught in any traffic. As I sat there listening to a CD of Karla's getting ready for the show I noticed a woman sitting outside near the side door of the club. I got out and walked up and it was Karla, I introduced myself and told her I loved her music, she was quite gracious and polite and thanked me and I went back to my car. A few minutes later I noticed Karla and Kenny getting into a dark Mercedes to go somewhere before the show. I saw them return a little later and go back in. The show was great, it was the first time I had heard "Daddy's Little Girl" and it brought tears to my eyes. I am really looking forward to the new CD and will be purchasing an on line autographed copy. I have the Bryndle Live CD and it has the three autographs and I will add it to my collection. Thanks for the music and the memories!

We have a fairly firm date of release for Karla Bonoff Live. It passed through mastering recently and it was approved by Karla and Kenny, who co-produced the album. The artwork for the project was approved earlier this week and it's currently in manufacturing. Karla let me know that she expects to start shipping it the first week of September. Autographed copies will be available on karlabonoff.com in her new store.

Details concerning the songs on the album and a first look at the cover can be found HERE.

It's been a while since I've added new information about Karla's release. We believe we could be shipping by next week as we originally announced. The CDs are expected to complete manufacturing "any minute now" and we'll make a formal notice as soon as we have new information.

Absolutely - Karla does plan to autograph the copies sold online as well as on tour. If youve seen Karla perform live, you know she usually signs CDs after the show and meets people if the venue has a place to do that.

I've been working on a new store for Karla that we expect to go online sometime next week. Unfortunately, due to "circumstances beyound our control," we just learned today that there was a delay in manufacturing and that will push the release date of "Karla Bonoff Live" back just a bit.

I'll update this thread as soon as I get some specifics but it looks it could be a couple of weeks into September - hopefully sooner - but possibly that long.

And to give you a taste of what it sounds like, Karla has given us "Someone To Lay Down Beside Me" as a free download from the new album. You'll find the link to it on the "Live" page.

ENJOY!

Yes it will. It's probably going to be a couple of weeks before it gets to ITunes. We could have held back the physical release of the CD to match when it was ready for ITunes but decided to put out the CD as soon as it was available. We should have more information about ITunes shortly.

Yes and Yes!

Yes, you can order by mail.

The address is

Karla Bonoff Store
P.O. Box 5182
Santa Barbara, CA. 93150

You can use the Paypal storefront to calculate what the cost is and then bail out of it before the last step to complete the sale. We'll have a page up shortly to help you with that.

Yes, Karla will bring copies of "Live" to Colorado.

They plan on having a limited amount of "Live" CDs with her on the trip to Colorado this week. Only a small amount of CDs have been received from manufacturing to date but all the orders will begin shipping next week.

By the way, this is the first release that Karla has put out independently and she is very gratified by the support from fans.

Karla Bonoff Live Begins Shipping

Folks,

Just a quick note to let you know that "Karla Bonoff Live" will start shipping today. The CDs have made their way to Santa Barbara on schedule and a few orders have already started to go out. We thank everyone for their support.

I got a chance to hear it a couple of days ago for the first time and it's a really wonderful CD. The mp3 of "Someone To Lay down beside me" on the "Live" page is really only a taste of how good it can sound on CD with a good sound system.

It's worth mentioning that Karla's Live album is now available in two parts on ITunes that match the two CDs. We included links from the Karla Bonoff Store to ITunes for most of Karla's albums and we expect to add everything she has availalble shortly. And you can get to the Karla Bonoff Store from the menu in her site or HERE.
