One of the rarest songs written and recorded by Karla. "Cold Wind Blow" appeared on episode 31 of "Miami Vice", originally aired November 29, 1985. Karla has always felt it was an unfinished song and for that reason, it has never been released commercially. The lyrics can be found here.
This song has a copyright date of 1975 but this is a rare demo recorded a few years before then - before Karla was signed to Columbia and before any major artist had recorded her music. Although there are no studio notes, our best "guess" is that the band is Karla, with Kenny Edwards, Andrew Gold and with possibly Wendy Waldman and Jennifer Warnes on backup vocals. It was likely recorded at Crystal Studios in Hollywood.
This is a rare demo that came to us from a fan in Japan who found it on an acetate - a fragile, lacquer disc that's used by engineers for testing purposes. They usually deteriorate with every play so this is really a rare find in this quality.
This is something special - a completed unreleased Bryndle song (written by Karla Bonoff, Wendy Waldman and Kenny Edwards) with lead vocals by Karla Bonoff. This song was played live by Bryndle in 1996-97 and was first recorded in early 1997 with vocals and other overdubs added later that year. All intentions were that it would be included in Bryndle's second CD, "House of Silence." It has a nice pop feel more reminiscent of Karla's 1970's recordings than Bryndle. It was released on a special "limited-run" disc sent out to record companies but never released to the public. Then in 2001, another attempt was made to re-record the song, but it was eventually pulled from the list. This is the 1997 version of the song - released for the first time. The lyrics to this song can be found on Karla's site here. Although specific credits are sketchy, the musicians include Karla, Kenny and Wendy plus Scott Babcock and probably Matt Cartsonis. Andrew Gold was probably not on this track.
Karla Bonoff with Kenny Edwards and Nina Gerber
live digital soundboard recording - Sebastopol - March 15th, 2003
Karla and Kenny were joined by Bay Area based guitarist Nina Gerber for this show on electric guitar. It's a very nice live version of this song, originally from Karla's "Wild Heart of the Young" CD. An article (including photos from the sound check) about this show was written by webmaster Paul Grosso and is available here.
Karla Bonoff & J.D. Souther
probably from 1991 - radio broadcast
Karla and J.D. Souther played a brief tour in Japan and the U.S. in 1991 and
it's been reported they played this song. Most people know it
from the version recording by the Everly Brothers in 1959 but
Karla and J.D. gave this very nice rendition, live on New York
FM radio circa 1991.
Karla Bonoff with Kenny Edwards

This is a soundboard recording.
The original version was released on Bryndle's "House

Strawberry Music Festival 1996
Bryndle
- Karla Bonoff and Wendy Waldman lead vocals and guitars
This was recorded live at the Strawberry Music Festival, Camp
Mather, Yosemite, California - October 5th, 1996 on the main
stage between 5:30 and 6:30 PM. (So says the official log of
events for the festival)
This is a clean unreleased live recording of this song by its
two writers. The original version was recorded by The Dirt Band
and Karla Bonoff for the 1996 Olympics, which received radio
and video play that year.
Bryndle - Karla Bonoff lead vocals
This is an unreleased early mix of a song from Bryndle's
1995 release. Electric guitars, accordion and all background
vocals (including Karla's) are missing, so it has a stripped
down acoustic sound - with a wall of acoustic instruments; mandolin,
acoustic guitar, slide guitars and of course, Karla's lone lead
vocal still intact.

Karla Bonoff
Recorded live in Japan, March 21st, 1980
The original version comes from Karla's first album but this
was recorded while on tour for her second album, "Restless
Nights." A very nice soundboard mix with full band.
