Theater on Mt. Tam

The Mountain Theater, high on Mt. Tamalpais, is host to the yearly Mountain Play, a Marin tradition since 1913. This natural ampitheather was enhanced with stone seating by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930's.

This was also the site of "The Magic Mountain Music Festival," one of the largest and most memorable music festivals the Bay Area has ever seen. The Byrds, The Doors, Jefferson Airplane and others played the two-day festival in June of 1967 in front of 15,000 fans signaling the beginning of the Summer Of Love.
