House of Silence
The second recording by Bryndle

House of Silence
Live

Although Bryndle hasn't played live since 1998, that doesn't mean the songs featured on House of Silence haven't been played live - on-stage and elsewhere. This collection of tracks were all recorded live and feature songs from House Of Silence.

Like A Compass

Karla Bonoff - piano, Kenny Edwards - guitar
recorded live
Boulder, CO
6/15/02

It's not a Bryndle CD (or a solo Karla album for that matter) without the "Big Bonoff Ballad" and this song is that. This was written by Karla and Wendy (probably) in 1996 and was performed at least once by Bryndle that year. Currently, Karla performs it with Kenny at many of her live dates. Colorado is a favorite place of Karla's and she plays there at least a couple of times a year. This recording was made at a show there in the middle of 2002..

One Heartbeat Away

Bryndle
Andrew Gold, Kenny Edwards, Wendy Waldman, Karla Bonoff
with Scott Babcock, Matt Cartsonis
recorded
live - June, 1996
This raw cut was recording outdoors in Oregon. Bryndle shared the bill at the Britt Music Festival with Jim Messina and Steve Forbert. As it turned out, this was Andrew Gold's last performance with Bryndle before leaving the band and moving to the East Coast. "One Heartbeat Away" sounds raw and unfinished compared with the version that would end up on "House of Silence" more than 5 years later. The jangly Bryd's-like guitar sound evolved into a country feel and some of the lyrics would change when it was recorded again in 2001. This is a very rough board mix, dominated by the electric guitar and bass, it leaves the acoustic guitar and mandolin nearly nonexistent. Not a good representation of the version on House of Silence but an insight into "the process."

("False start due to technical difficulties" included for your listening pleasure)

Concrete River

Bryndle
Folkscene radio broadcast
Southern California - 1995
A nice live-in-the-studio version of this song recorded shortly after the release of the first album. "Concrete River" was written about the same time as most of the songs on the first album but was held over for "Bryndle 2."
