Crawl Into The Light
Andrew Gold - "Well, I wrote it and recorded
it originally in the weeks after September 11th, about
those incidences. I did the bulk of the song and then
handed it to the guys for use on the album as an extra
secret track, but they liked it so much, they just
put it on, after adding a very nice bridge and some
voices and guitars etc."
"What I like about the song is the way the first
2 verses build to the chorus talking about American
feelings of security and patriotism ("...flying
over amber waves of grain") and then the desire
literally and allegorically to crawl out from the
collapsed feeling of security, not to mention a collapsed
building, into the light. Then the 3rd verse talks
about terrorists hidding behind a false image of the
Koran, "Cowering in the dirt" and raising
generations of haters...and the chorus, sung exactly
the same asks them to "crawl into the light"
of evolved love and compassion, and away from the
dark ages they seem to be stuck in..."
"Anyway,
it was a highly emotional song for me to write, and
the bridge Kenny and Wendy wrote is the perfect last
thought about loss of innocense turning to rage and
the question posed: how can people get so far away
from being human that they become true monsters?"

I
hear the sound of rolling thunder
There is a fire in the sky
And all we knew is sinking under
We are falling down
Runnin blind
Think last
night I dreamt of flying
Over amber waves of grain
Now in the darkness I am lying
If there's someone there
Call my name
Crawl Into
The Light
Hear my voice and take my hand
All that you believe
It will crumble where you stand
Dark and frightened mind
Don't get trapped inside
Crawl Into The light
You that
hide behind the sacred
You that cower in the dirt
Fill your children with such hatred
Why does love make you so afraid
Give in before it's too late
chorus
How does
innocence
Die so quietly
Leaving nothing but
A cold rage burning
I don't understand
What it's like to get so far away
till there's no returning
