"This was originally a piece of music I had sitting around for 15 years, without melody or lyric. Eventually some words and tune formed in my mind and together with the band, we came up with the idea of tragic star-crossed lovers; A Romeo and Juliet setting, where racial realities and different class conspire to ruin true love."

The sunlight came through the Spanish moss
Made diamonds in your hair
I held my breath and I knew at once
I didn't have a prayer
Silken blue-eyed angel please come down
I had to say
Just like a dream you turned and looked my way
Savannah
It's a paper moon that shines on you
Savannah ooh
All through the summer the heat poured down
The days so sweet and long
The nights we lay in your gentle world
I never did belong
We swore that love would lift us
Above the words we heard them say
We'd close our eyes and dream
We'd fly away
Sorry Savannah
It's a paper moon that shines on you
Savannah
Broke your heart in two
Seems like I keep to myself these days
My heart has gone to sleep
The moonlit road that we used to walk
Is just a dusty street
I can't forget the night we turned away
Without a sound
The walls they put between us
Won't come down
Sorry Savannah
It's a paper moon that shines on you
Savannah ooh
Savannah
It was just a wish that won't come true
Savannah
It's a paper moon
